Luján is one of the most progressive members of the U.S. Senate – and he’s moving even further to the extreme left

Albuquerque, NM — Over the course of the 2026 midterm election cycle, New Mexico Senator Ben Ray Luján has drawn some shocking similarities to many socialist candidates across the country, but none more than our neighbor to the east, James Talarico of Texas. It’s no secret that Talarico has become the golden boy of the Democratic Party, but what has gone largely unnoticed outside of New Mexico is just how radical Ben Ray Luján has become.

“Ben Ray Luján has made it crystal clear to voters across New Mexico that he is the New Mexico version of James Talarico,” said Interim Chairman Mike Nelson. “At a time when New Mexico desperately needs common-sense policies that champion hard-working families in our state, Ben Ray Luján continues to side with his ultra-far-left socialist allies in the Democratic Party.”

Both Luján and Talarico want to prioritize illegals over citizens—that’s a given. But rather than just talk about it, Senator Luján has actually demonstrated throughout his years in office that he cares far more about illegal immigrants and their needs than he does about the basic needs of New Mexicans. Both are for Medicare-for-All and government-run healthcare services, which also include illegal immigrants receiving healthcare benefits at the expense of taxpayers.

Both have still failed to condemn Anthony Fauci for his unmitigated failure and inability to tell the truth during one of the most difficult times in our nation’s history. Both are against voter ID, are quick to call even the slightest election integrity measure “racist,” and want to restrict Second Amendment rights and energy production, which, ironically, will have MASSIVE implications for the economic outlook in Texas and New Mexico.

Lastly, both have embraced the recent wave of socialist candidates that have taken the Democratic Party by storm. These candidates have gained national prominence by associating themselves with narratives that include “canceling Thanksgiving” and “America deserved 9/11.”

Liberal voting-scorecard service ProgressivePunch gave Ben Ray Luján a “progressive score” of nearly 97%, making him one of the most extreme progressive members in the entire U.S. Senate. Even while Ben Ray Luján was in Congress, he voted with AOC about 95% of the time.

If one thing can be unanimously agreed upon, it’s that the people of New Mexico are hard working men and women who do NOT believe in socialist/communist policies. Because of Democrats, our state faces a litany of serious problems and challenges, and the last thing we need is another far-left socialist representing us in the United States Senate. Republican candidate Larry Marker understands exactly what New Mexico needs, what has been crippling our state for years, and, most of all, he will serve the interests and values of New Mexicans—a notion that is completely nonexistent with New Mexico Democrats.
