HULL ENDORSED BY BIGOTED EXTREMIST PASTOR

Legacy Church leader has a long history of discriminatory statements and sweeping sexual abuse under the rug

ALBUQUERQUE – This week, Gregg Hull, the Republican candidate for Governor of New Mexico, was endorsed by Steve Smothermon, the lead Pastor for Legacy Church in Albuquerque, who has a well-documented record of inflammatory statements, discriminatory practices, and sweeping sexual abuse under the rug. Smothermon has also called those who support abortion care “murderers” and “reprobate.”

“Gregg Hull was endorsed by a bigoted, anti-woman, and anti-LGBTQ pastor? Can’t say we’re shocked,” said Mila Myles, spokeswoman for the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “What is surprising is that Hull thinks having fans like Smothermon doesn’t disqualify him from serving all New Mexicans. We need a governor who will protect the rights and views of all New Mexicans, not just those they agree with.”

Hull with Smothermon

Smothermon’s extremism is just the right flavor for Hull, who has agreed to help Greg Abbott restrict access to abortion and has committed to cutting access to Medicaid, SNAP, and universal childcare. Smothermon previously endorsed fellow extremist Greg Cunningham in CD2, and is now spreading his hate to Hull’s campaign. You can read the full post here.

Smothermon is persistently known for breaching Legacy Church’s 501c3 status by using the church pulpit to campaign for GOP candidates. One well-known instance many voters will recall from 2022 is when he assured his congregation that Mark Ronchetti planned to ban all abortion if he were to become governor.
